Collingwood Tin Portal Blocking Works

The Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy (DNRME), Technical Services team manages the Abandoned Mine Lands Program (AMLP) across Queensland. One of the sites within this program is the former Collingwood Tin mine, located near Rossville in far north Queensland.

To support the ongoing rehabilitation of the site, permanent blocking of the opening to the underground mine workings needs to occur. By blocking the portal, access by humans to the decline and underground mine workings will be removed whilst allowing for access to the mine workings by protected fauna species, in particular several bat species.  All blocking infrastructure and associated drainage are to be constructed in accordance with the attached Drawings.

The portal and decline are Confined Spaces as per the Australian Standard 2865-2009.  All work that is required inside of the portal (anywhere past the concrete retaining wall) will be deemed as confined space work.
