Queensland and Commonwealth legal assistance service delivery funding: 2020-25
The 2017-20 funding for legal assistance services delivered by community organisations ceases on 30 June 2020. Commonwealth funding for legal assistance services is currently allocated to states and territories to administer under the National Partnership Agreement on Legal Assistance Services 2015-20 (the NPA), which expires on 30 June 2020. In the 2019-20 Federal Budget, the Commonwealth Government committed to a new National Legal Assistance Partnership (NLAP), which will come into effect from 1 July 2020.
Under the legal assistance services program, the Queensland Government will allocate approximately $120.6 million of Queensland and Commonwealth funding for the delivery of legal assistance services in Queensland over 2020-25. Legal assistance services are:
free legal services for vulnerable and disadvantaged people; and
free court/tribunal support and advocacy services for vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
-The Queensland funding available to be allocated for service delivery through this process is approximately $70.4 million.
-The Commonwealth funding available to be allocated for service delivery through this process is approximately $50.2 million.
