Townsville CP Walking Tracks

Repair damage to the Mountain bike and walking track systems within the Townsville Conservation Park,

Damage occurred during the 2019 Townsville floods and consists of erosion / drainage issues and loss of the top layer of trail material.

 

Phase 1 Forts Track/ Commencement of Under the radar MTB Trail (see map 01)

  • Reinstate drainage and track wough buoys to reduce erosion control water velocity during heavy rain events, all walking/MTB trail in the Pallerenda Forts area,
  • Repair erosion and reinstate steps on the pedestrian access (concrete steps) leading to the Forts area
  • Relay road base where needed level and compact and reduce trip hazards,
  • All works to be carried out with no damage or removal of existing rock works and with respect to the Cultural heritage of the area,

Phase 2 Under the Radar MTB Trail (see Map 02)

  • Reinstate drainage and track wough buoys to reduce erosion control water velocity during heavy rain events along the length of the Under the radar MTB trail, use natural material and rock armor on areas of high-water velocity and in forming wough buoys
  • Repair any erosion through reforming existing drainage lines and introducing improved drainage in areas of Hi damage.
  • Where needed remove damaged geo hex and replace and relay top layer of decomposed granite material and compact.
  •  In areas of compaction / erosion replace base material introduce new Geo hex and layer of decomposed granite and compact.

 Phase 3 Smedly’s MTB trail (see Map 03)

  • Reinstate drainage and track wough buoys to reduce erosion control water velocity during heavy rain events along the length of the Under the radar MTB trail, use natural material and rock armor on areas of high-water velocity and in forming wough Buoys
  • Introduce 2 x access track to allow ease of access for maintenance and to be to beginner intermediate (Blue Diamond) trail standard, see attached map the exact location, will need to be flagged and approved prior to commencement of work. 
  • Repair any erosion through reforming existing drainage lines and introducing improved drainage in areas of High damage.
  • In areas of compaction / erosion replace base material introduce new Geo hex and layer of decomposed granite and compact.

Notes

  1. All materials sourced off site and clean of any organic contaminants
  2. Any rock Armor to be of similar colour to the existing trail surface with no variation in colour
  3. Phase 1 Any introduction of prefab concreter steps to be of similar colour to the trail surface with no variation in colour between individual steps,  
  4. All machines and equipment will need to be declared free of weeds and seed and washed down prior to entry to the work area,
