The Baal Gammon copper mine, located 8km west of Herberton, is classified as an Abandoned Mine and is currently managed by the Technical Services team within the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME). Authorisation to carry out care and maintenance and rehabilitation activities on Abandoned Mines is provided to DNRME Authorised Officers via the Mineral Resources Act 1989 Section 344A.

 

Relevant information about the site:

  • The site is manned daily by two operators, 7 days per week, between 7am and 4pm.
  • Mobile Phone service is available in all areas normally (Telstra network).
  • Toilet and hand washing facilities are available onsite
  • Power is available at the site (provided by generators).
  • Limited amounts of bottled drinking water is stored at site, however contractors are required to bring their own daily supply.
  • An administration office is present at site.
  • Fridge, sink, microwave, kettle and other basic crib facilities are available at site.

    This contract is to provide hydro-mulching services at the Baal Gammon Mine.

    Revegetation activities are requested for January 2021, in areas that the Customer has deemed ready for immediate remediation (revegetation).

    The following map indicates target areas, comprising:

  • Flat Areas        = 12,000 m2
  • Steep Areas     = 41,000 m2
