Project Officer

The Project Officer will be required to develop and oversee project tasks to reduce public and environmental safety and health risks associated with selected abandoned mines within Far North Queensland. 

 

This will include designing and overseeing a range of complex environmental monitoring programs and contamination assessments, the preparation of contractor procurement documentation, data analysis, technical report preparation and managing health and safety outcomes.  This will also include on-site field work, contractor management and contract control, stakeholder engagement and critical project management functions.

 

To be successful in this role you will need to have experience within the mining industry, and good knowledge of environmental management and stakeholder engagement. Furthermore, proven technical skills in the identification and management of risks from mineral resource development, have strong computer, communication and research skills, be a solutions orientated team player and a self-starter. Project management skills are desirable.

 

The default role is for 36.25 hours per week across Monday to Friday, however there is opportunity for flexible working arrangements. The engagement is classified as casual employment, with leave loading included in hourly rate.

 

Site work will be required occasionally (most commonly to a mine site near Cooktown), and travel related costs will be covered and standard travel allowances provided. There may be occasional need for weekend or after hours work in special circumstances.
