Water Release Events

For the purpose of this document, a water release event will involve the controlled release of waters from the Tailings Storage Facility and / or the Decant Water Dam. A release event will only occur on weekdays and generally be initiated on a Monday and will cease by Friday. Please note that some aspects of this contract are on a ‘water release event’ basis. None, or more than one, water release event may occur over the contract period but services associated with each event will be charged at the rate outlined.

Releases are anticipated to occur from the 11th January through to the 1st May 2021.  This is equivalent to 16 weeks.  The actual requirement for releases may differ from these dates, however these dates should be used to inform the pricing schedule of this contract and any differences will be managed by variation based on unit rates.

 

Water Quality Monitoring

  • All water monitoring requirements are to be conducted as per the Collingwood Tin Abandoned Mine Water Discharge Management Plan (TS-COLT-PLN-001) (Attachment 2)
  • Additional water quality sampling may be required at ad hoc intervals throughout a contract period, and additional to the water quality monitoring conducted as standard practice of the Water Release Procedure. If water quality monitoring is required in addition to the Water Release Procedure, a request will be issued by DoR with the due date for delivery of sample results. 

A cost proposal for the additional sampling, with subsequent approval from the Technical Services Project Manager is required prior to conducting the work.  The cost proposal should be established using the Rates of Variation outlined in Schedule 2.

  • An appropriately NATA certified laboratory is to be used to analyse all results.  A copy of all laboratory reports are to be provided to the DoR representative.

 

Reporting

  • All reporting requirements are to be conducted as per the Requirements and Deliverables below. 
  • Additional basic data interpretation reporting/advice may be required to cover additional water quality sampling and monitoring requested.  A cost proposal for the additional reporting with subsequent approval from the Technical Services Project Manager is required prior to conducting the work. The cost proposal should be established using the Rates of Variation outlined in Schedule 2.
  • When basic interpretation reporting/advice is required, a document is to be provided for evidence of the monitoring conducted.

Ultimate Site Responsibility

The Supplier is responsible for the provision of services under this contract, however the Customer remains responsible for the overall management and performance of the water retaining dams at site. Liability for downstream impacts from tailings dam and decant dam water releases remains with the Customer.
