The Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women requires a supplier to set up a service that will operate as part of the existing local service system in Doomadgee and provide immediate and ongoing trauma informed counselling and practical support to individuals aged 14 years and over affected by sexual violence. Counselling support will be delivered in a way that is culturally appropriate and accessible to victims/survivors and can include individual and group work, planned support/case management activities and other wrap around assistance to support healing and recovery from their experiences.
To ensure the service is culturally appropriate and responsive to the needs of the Doomadgee community, the first phase of service establishment will require the successful supplier to sensitively undertake an inclusive and comprehensive consultation process with the Doomadgee community to co-design a service model that will meet community need.
The service will also have a role supporting the Doomadgee community to better understand the nature and prevalence of sexual violence and the impact on those affected and to support the promotion of safe, respectful relationships free from violence.
