The Department of Resources (DoR) Technical Services team manages the former Goondicum Ilmenite mine as part of the Abandoned Mine Lands Program. The former mine has three tailings storage facilities (TSF), two mining pits and large disturbed former processing, stockpiling and operational areas.
The mine is located on Goondicum Station, a freehold operating cattle station. Upon successful rehabilitation of the site, the former mining lease area will be handed back to the landowners as grazing land.
For planning and design purposes, the site has been split into two domains. The Eastern Domain consists of the former mining pits, processing area and South Dam. The Western Domain consists of the West Dam, North West Dam, the former Pilot Plant Area and associated haul and access roads and other disturbed areas.
The intent of this progressive stage of works (this scope) is to complete the final detailed design phase for the Eastern Domain to enable the successful execution of site closure works in this Domain. The future intent is to tender closure execution works for the Eastern Domain prior to the 2021-22 wet season.
