Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope
Laser scanning confocal microscopes (LSCM) are a vital tool in life science research. They allow multi-dimensional imaging and 3D image construction of organelles and of processes occurring within fixed or living cells and tissues. As opposed to general fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy controls depth of field and allows the collection of focussed serial optical sections from thick specimens, eliminating or reducing background fluorescence and enhancing signal and contrast. Confocal microscopes are considered an essential tool, and indeed standard instrumentation, within universities and research institutes, and have many diverse applications.
The purpose of this Tender is to purchase a high-quality and technologically advanced system that will cater to the current, and future, requirements of JCU researchers and students.
