Provision of 2021 Strategic Assessment of Service Requirements

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) is responsible for administering justice in Queensland. As part of this responsibility, DJAG provides court facilities for the Queensland community, while endeavouring to provide a safe and functional workplace of its judicial officers and staff. The courthouse portfolio is diverse in age, size and nature, with facilities ranging from small, heritage-listed courthouses in regional towns to the modern, central precinct in Brisbane City. With the advent of digital technology, alongside the historically held view of courthouses being the focal points of Queensland communities, the need to sustainably manage courthouses and the expectations of their users is becoming increasingly important.
Courthouses provide a physical presence in communities across Queensland and importantly in many remote areas, a central point of delivery for a range of Queensland Government services, including community justice services.  Members of the public have access to or can inquire about birth, death and marriage registration or get married at the courthouse with services officiated over by appropriate staff, Justices of the Peace and assistance with accessing support services at Queensland courthouses.

DJAG requires three (3) priority Strategic Assessment of Service Requirements (SASRs) to be delivered for this engagement, as follows:

  1. Courthouse Sustainability (South East Queensland)
  2. Courthouse Sustainability (North Queensland)
  3. Courthouse Sustainability (Beenleigh) – (Joint Queensland Police Service (QPS) & DJAG initiative)

The three SASR’s should each be presented as separate standalone documents (recommendations), with an overlay report that consolidates and prioritises the South East Queensland and North Queensland strategic assessments as a single program.
