The Queensland Government is seeking Proposals for QPWS Inclusive Outdoors – Visitor Experiences.

The successful supplier will be required to investigate four national park destinations to ground-truth the experience for people with disability (PwD). The national parks are:

  1. Girraween National Park
  2. Daintree National Park
  3. Bribie Island National Park
  4. Green Island National Park

The successful supplier will be required to visit specific areas within each national park; profile existing visitor experiences for PwD; and provide a list of recommendations to improve the visitor experience within the park. Recommendations are to include the following:

  • summary of information, including photos, that should be included on the national parks website to provide PwD the information they need to decide whether to visit the selected national park (note recommendations must fit within the current Parks and Forest web format).
  • provision of any new accessible infrastructure such as walking tracks, guide ropes, signage and seating);
  • modifications to existing infrastructure (wider pathways, changes to tables, shower blocks, toilets).
  • identification of opportunities for universally accessible interpretive features eg. braille and tactile features, audio tour stops/story seats, viewing and listening platforms.
  • provision of equipment or services (wheelchairs for certain terrains/sherpas).

The successful supplier will also be required to educate QPWS&P staff on the methodology used, criteria for identifying what information to share, challenges, and considerations for future capital works projects. Specifically, the supplier will need to conduct:

  • A half-day training workshop (3-4 hours) to equip QPWS&P with the skills to observe and record the relevant information to develop an accessibility profile and communicate it effectively on the respective website for other national parks in the future.
  • 30-min PowerPoint presentation (including a Q&A session) to the Visitor Communications community of practice within QPWS.
