Borumba Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) is an integrated energy and water security brownfield development encompassing the existing Borumba Dam as a lower reservoir, located approximately 50kms south of Gympie (1GW/24 hours storage). It has been identified as a preferred site for pumped hydro, with numerous studies undertaken, including a concept study completed in May 2020.
In late 2020, the Queensland Government requested Powerlink undertake the required activities to allow the Government to make an investment decision regarding commitment to the ongoing development of PHES projects, in the context of a longer-term plan for the electricity supply system.
Powerlink seeks information from the market regarding capability, capacity and delivery options to enable Powerlink to consider the most desirable delivery model for the Front End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed project analysis and detailed analytical report.
This Request for Information (RFI) process is an initial information gathering procedure which will enable Powerlink to evaluate the Supplier’s capability and capacity to satisfy project requirements without requiring the Respondent to incur the costs associated with the preparation of a fully detailed tender.
All costs incurred by the Respondent in relation to the RFI process must be borne by the Respondent. No claims for reimbursement for time, material, and/or expenses are to be made by the Respondent against Powerlink regardless of the results of the RFI process.
