Tender Overview

The Queensland Government is seeking Information for Onboard Wireless Connectivity Services.

The purpose of this initiative is to allow Queensland Rail to engage the open marketplace to identify any recent developments or synergies within ICT technologies that can provide Queensland Rail’s onboard wireless connectivity business requirements and

In October 2012, QR Passenger Pty Ltd (QRP) implemented the following Solution across the Citytrain network fleet:

  • Provision of a Wireless Carrier Service to and from Onboard Rollingstock
  • Streaming of CCTV Video from Onboard Rollingstock
  • Provision of Onboard Wi-Fi services

The Solution was initiated to improve on-board safety records through enhanced CCTV surveillance systems (i.e. streaming of live CCTV images from Rollingstock), the real time ability providing Queensland Rail security staff and Queensland Police rail squad members with a much higher degree of situational awareness in turn allowing the effective management and engagement of onboard incidents.

Additional scope and benefit of the above includes the provision of free issue onboard recreational Wi-Fi for passenger use with the realisation made following implementation that this component generates greater than 90% of the Solution’s total usage.
