Section 1

Tender Overview

The State of Queensland (acting through Department of Environment and Science (DES)) is seeking offers from qualified and experienced shipbuilding firms for the Construction and Delivery of two (2) aluminium patrol vessels designed by Incat Crowther.

One vessel is a 17 metre conventional catamaran patrol vessel, and the other is a 19 metre catamaran patrol vessel with landing craft capability.

The purpose of this project is to replace two (2) existing, Marine Parks patrol vessels conducting operations in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.  These vessels are at the end of their serviceable life, and no longer meet the service delivery requirements for the Field Management Program.

The new vessels will perform patrol and infrastructure management roles within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area - performing a range of tasks including; marine protected area management, island national park management, compliance operations, incident response, diving operations and research.

The vessels will be based in Townsville and Airlie Beach, however will operate throughout the Queensland Coast and Great Barrier Reef waters to the extent of the Exclusive Economic Zone.  Much of these vessels work will be in remote areas of the Great Barrier Reef.
