Section 1

Tender Overview

The Department of Environment and Science is committed to providing recreational opportunities along the existing Goldfields Track, in the Goldsborough Valley section of Wooroonooran National Park.

This existing section of track, about 9km in length, follows some of the historical gold fields and old logging and Forestry tracks.

Parts of this track were likely to have been used by traditional owners prior to European settlement, and presently serves as an important access to Aboriginal cultural sites for current traditional owners.

It is a formed track with numerous causeways, pipe heads and culverts. This track is to the east, and mostly parallel to the Mulgrave River.

This track is in a high rainfall area, and parts of the track and associated infrastructure have been damaged by past major flooding events.

As well as directly impacting on the track and associated infrastructure, the deterioration in parts, may be affecting water quality in the Mulgrave River and adjoining streams.

Works required:

The proposed works include, but are not limited to:

  • Clearing of vegetation that overhangs or impacts on existing track.
  • Sections of the track require re-shaping and re-surfacing, and drainage lines reinstated.

This will require preparing existing footprint, hauling in road base material, grading and rolling.

  • Pipe heads and culverts need to be cleared, repaired and /or replaced.
  • Approach and departure ends of causeways need to be repaired and stabilised.
  • Some causeways require extending and /or repair to mitigate against seasonal flooding and consequent erosion.

Works to commence 01/10/2020 and be completed by 30/11/2020.

Refer to Attachment 1 – Specifications for full outline of requirements.
