Section 1

Tender Overview

The site is located at Rainbow Beach off Clarkson Road, see Appendix 1, Figure 1.  The site is a former mineral sand processing area and covers Lot 4AP17591, Lot 18 on MPH40650, Lot 3 on AP17591, Lot 5 on AP23083, Lot 23 on AP1574 and Lot 6 on AP23083.  Lot 3 and Lot 5 are listed on the Environmental Management Register due to contamination in the form of concentrated mineral sands following mining activity.

The next phase of remediation planned for the site is management of the heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) across Areas 1 and 2 in the northern portion of the site (see Appendix 1, Figure 1).   The on-site field work involves firstly, placement of geofabric into an existing pit; secondly, collection and relocation of highly concentrated HMC into the pit, and thirdly, blending of the residual grey sands with sub-surface white sand and creation of a stable landform.  Where tenderers are unable to perform all the works, locally sourced sub-contractors are recommended.

Remediating the HMC from Areas 1 and 2 (see Appendix 1, Figure 1) will enable that portion of the land to undergo a lot reconfiguration and application for the area to be removed from the Environmental Management Register (EMR).

DNRME is seeking the services and provision of wet hire plant and equipment for the excavation and movement of large quantities of sandy material throughout the site
