Tender Overview

PN0700 – Wharf 10 - Concrete Repair Works – FY21

Ports North (PN) is responsible for the development and management of port facilities vital to the development of Cairns and regional centres in Far North Queensland. The Corporation has extensive property, marina, tourism and cargo facilities in Cairns and its regional ports. PN owns and maintains Wharf 10, located in the Cairns Seaport. Wharf 10 specifically caters for the importation of bulk liquids including petroleum fuels and LPG. The wharf is a vital component of infrastructure in the PN asset portfolio.

The Wharf 10 facility consists of a precast wharf approach supported on steel piles and headstocks, a reinforced poured in-situ concrete deck supported on concrete piles, two reinforced concrete berthing dolphins supported on steel piles and two reinforced mooring dolphins supported on steel piles. The reinforced concrete deck and berthing dolphins have delaminating and drummy concrete that requires repair to ensure that the facility remains serviceable for its intended design life.

In general terms the works consist of:

  • Demolition and removal of deteriorated concrete (approximate total area of 120m2 split over the wharf deck and berthing dolphins)
  • Replacement of corroded reinforcement where necessary
  • Concrete reinstatement
  • Application of silane to all concrete surfaces (approximately 1,300m2 of total area)

The wharf is an operational wharf and construction methodology and programming around vessel operations will be critical to the successful delivery of the works.

PN requests Tender Submissions from suitably qualified Marine Contractors with appropriate experience in the delivery of concrete remediation works. Works are to be performed on an operational wharf and will include the provisions of appropriate access and environmental controls in the tidal zone.
