The Coomera Connector (also known as the second M1) is a 45km north-south transport corridor connecting the Logan Motorway and Pacific Motorway interchange at Loganholme and Nerang-Broadbeach Road in Nerang.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has identified the 16km Stage 1 Coomera to Nerang section of the Coomera Connector as having the highest demand which needs to be built first. Stage 1 of the Coomera Connector will provide additional crossings at the Coomera and Nerang rivers. Stage 1 will be delivered in three major construction packages:
- Stage 1 North – Shipper Drive to Helensvale Road (tenders closed)
- Stage 1 Central – Helensvale Road to Smith Street Motorway
- Stage 1 South – Smith Street Motorway to Nerang-Broadbeach Road
Once delivered the Coomera Connector will cater for regional population and employment growth, relieve pressure on the M1 by reducing its use for local trips and improve safety and travel time reliability between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
On Wednesday 3 November 2021, a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the design and construction of Stage 1 Central – Helensvale Road to Smith Street Motorway (CC-HR2SSM) project will be released via the Queensland Government QTender website https://qtenders.hpw.qld.gov.au/qtenders/
Organisations must hold prequalification levels of R4/B4/A3/F150+ with Austroads together with demonstrated urban road design and construction experience on a significant transport infrastructure project, and TMR Engineering Consultant prequalification level of BD3, GE3, HE3, HD2, ITS3 and TE3 are able to submit their interest.
